YAKIMA, Wash. - Wineries across the region wrapped up their Red Wine & Chocolate Weekend on Monday and many had a good turnout.
The Tasting Room Yakima in Naches Heights said it had a busy first day and saw many more people coming through on the last day of the promotional weekend.
Damon Labato is one of the managers for the tasting room. He says the event gave clients the chance to make their first visit of the season.
"The winter months have been somewhat slow," he said. "Not just for us but everyone here in the Valley. But [Red Wine and Chocolate] gives people an opportunity to taste new releases."
Wine Yakima Valley helps promote the event for wineries like The Tasting Room Yakima. They say that early numbers show this year's event was consistent with the turnout from 2009.
Some wineries had good sales over the weekend but sales for others were flat, representatives for Wine Yakima Valley said.
The group believes their numbers were helped significantly by Valentine's Day falling in the middle of Presidents Day weekend.
