Police investigating West Richland shooting

Posted: Updated:

WEST RICHLAND, Wash--  Police are investigating a shooting on the corner of Chelan and Fallon drives in West Richland.  Wednesday, police had to dress in hazmat suits as they continue their investigation.

"In this particular case, we wore them for personal protection due to the unsanitary conditions in the house," says sergeant Bill Leach.

Police say 39-year-old John Ritchie was shot in the arm around nine Tuesday night.  Shortly after, officers arrested 47-year-old John Miksch on an unrelated warrant.

It's believed the two had been drinking inside his home, when Ritchie left--unaware he'd been shot.  When he saw the blood, he went to the neighbors for help.

"I heard him say call 911 and then when I came out here, he was laying on the porch," Amber Allen tells us.  She says she was scared.  "I didn't know who he was.  He said he was homeless."

Not much is known about either men, but we do know Miksch, who goes by Danny, worked down the street at the West Richland Golf Course a few years back.  Co-workers wouldn't go on camera, but tell us he is a nice guy who kept mostly quiet.

Right now, Miksch is in jail on a 72 hour hold.
