YAKIMA, Wash. – The arrival of "Avenue Q" Thursday and limited number of tickets remaining suggest The Capitol Theatre if off to solid start this year and the community is ready for edgier shows.
The show's two performances on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 are almost sold out. It kicks off the new "Broadway on Edge" series at the theatre.
Ryan Messer works in the marketing department for the Capitol. He says the show is attracting a younger audience; people under 30 or 40, who normally pass on the theatre scene.
"We're seeing these people come in and want to see something that is Broadway quality," he said. "Something they know they could've seen in Seattle that we're now bringing here into Yakima."
In addition to "Avenue Q," shows like "Annie" from the "Best of Broadway" series have done well this year. All three performances for that show were sold out.
