TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) - Tri-City leaders are threatening a lawsuit over Obama administration plans to abandon Yucca Mountain, Nev., as a repository for high-level radioactive waste.
Without Yucca Mountain, waste could be stranded at the Hanford nuclear reservation.
There are reports a letter to the Energy Department was sent Thursday by three business leaders associated with the Tri-City Development Council, former Energy Department and Washington Public Power Supply System official Bob Ferguson, Lampson International President Bill Lampson, and Tri-City Development Council vice chairman Gary Petersen.
They say that without Yucca Mountain, high-level waste at Hanford would create a significant public health and environmental risk.
