PASCO, Wash;-- Tri-Cities Animal Control will soon have a new program that requires every adopted pet to be spayed and neutered, unlike right now when people have the option to spay or neuter the animal they plan to adopt.
The program starting March 1st will cost people 50 dollars extra each time they adopt, but if the animal is already spayed or neutered there will be no extra cost. Workers at Animal Control say it's the first time this program has been established and it's expected to make a big difference in population control down the road.
They also say it may be 50 extra dollars each time you adopt a pet from the shelter that needs the procedure but the price of spaying or neutering can generally cost several hundred dollars. Ultimately workers say it could save you money.
