KENNEWICK, Wash. - U.S. senators are pushing for a bill that would give your child more options in their education. Senator Cantwell along with other senators from across the country are trying to get legislators to pass an educational bill. Its called Engineering Education for Innovation Act.
If passed, the bill would allow the Secretary of Education to award grants to integrate engineering education into K-12 curriculum and instruction. The legislation would increase student achievement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.)
"This bill will help ensure we educate the best scientists, mathematicians and engineers right here in America. Unless we foster these skills, we will be losing great jobs to foreign competition," said Senator Cantwell.
The bill would also invest in after school engineering programs and promote partnerships between engineering companies and schools. The estimated cost for the bill is $12.5 million between 2011 and 2015.
