KENNEWICK, Wash;-- What started out as a good way to get into shape grew into something else for Amanda Smiley when she realized with every marathon comes a fundraiser, and with every fundraiser comes a chance to help.
Today we meet up with Amanda as she stretches with a fellow runner to begin one of her many workouts leading up to the Pacific Crest Triathlon in July.
For this triathlon, her work out-group 'Team in Training' is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Amanda says it's the first time she has ever participated in a fundraiser, but through it, she has grown and met some extraordinary people a long the way.
"You meet tons of people," Amanda said. "It's amazing the stories you hear when you start talking to people and where you might get financial support because somebody may have a relative or something that you would have never known had you not been out there talking to different people."
Amanda has already raised $1,000 in the past two months. The goal is to ultimately donate $4,000. The 'Team in Training' group has raised $50,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
