Police say man fired high-powered rifle in his home

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- A Walla Walla man is behind bars tonight after he allegedly fired several shots from a handgun and a rifle in his house. Police say 43 year old Eric Hight also assaulted his girlfriend, but she was not hit by gunfire.

Police say Hight and his 47 year old girlfriend got into an argument. During the fight, the victim says Hight fired a handgun into a wall until et was empty. She also claims she was assaulted and verbally threatened.

The victim tells police he held a rifle to her head several times and even fired it about ten inches above her head. Police say they traced the path of the bullet through several walls, outside the home and through a neighbor's fence.

The victim was able to escape to a friends house to call police. Hight was taken into custody on charges of First Degree Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and other charges stemming from a prior felony conviction.

Hight has a history of arrest for assaultive behavior and malicious mischief. He has also made threats toward police in the past.
