Yakima family awarded $250,000 in "Cowboy Mike" settlement

YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Estate of Karen Peterson will get $250,000 in a settlement with the Department of Corrections.

Peterson said Mike Braae, the convicted killer known as "Cowboy Mike" sexually assaulted her in 2001.

The Peterson settlement is one of four lawsuits totaling $3.25 million.

The suits contend the state did not properly supervise Braae, and he was then able to assault and kill women.
