Odd Luck: Richland Bomber Baseball

Posted: Updated:

Last year's success was written in the stars.  Richland has won the state title in 1999, 2005, '07, and '09.  All odd numbered year's.

Head coach Ben Jacobs said, "The kids are the one's that produced it.  Us coaches are just along for the ride."

The ride this reason spells trouble.  No Ben Jacobs' team has won it all on an even year.  His team's the past three season's have made the final four in state.  So if anything their uniforms strike fear.

Jacobs commented on the fear: "I've been on teams where I've been afraid of that certain jersey you know so. "

Senior leader Chris Cecil confidently stated, "We have two state championships in the past three years.  You can't beat that.  People look at the Bombers and they're scared."

Even more intimidating, Jacobs' has the most state titles of any coach in 2A, 3A, or 4A classification with four.  So he knows what it takes to win this season.

Jacobs added, "We definitely have what it takes to become a contender.  Like I said earlier, we need to bring their mentality to where their physicality is."

By season's end the Richland Bombers hope to accomplish two goals.  Winning a state title on an even year... And quite possibly hit this 642 foot wall behind me.  I think one of those goals is a tad more reachable.
