Kennewick, WA- The home building industry in the Tri-Cities is off to a roaring start this year.
Permits for new construction are up 255 percent from this time last year.
While the recession hasn't affected the Tri-Cities housing market like other parts of the country, 2009 was a rough year. Still, Renee Dahlgren of the Homebuilders Association of the Tri-Cities says things turned around in the summertime. "From June to September we had a 37 percent in housing starts, so the year started off not so great, but we ended on a really high note."
Nearly 300 new homes are currently under construction in the Tri-Cities.
Nearly half of new home construction in the Tri-Cities is happening in Pasco.
