Yakima County pageant contestants prepare for Sunday competition
YAKIMA, Wash. – Pageant contestants are preparing for a busy weekend in advance of a new Miss Yakima County and Yakima County's Outstanding Teen being crowned Sunday at the Capitol Theatre.
Both contests are affiliated with the Miss America organization. Past winners say it's a great experience for young girls and women.
"Well not only do they receive scholarship money for college but it's an opportunity for them to get out in the community," said Yakima County's Outstanding Teen 2009 Lauren Allen. "[They can] make some contacts that I did with some of the members."
Both pageants do charity work for Children's Village and the Children's Miracle Network. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. and tickets are still available. You can purchase then at the door for $15.
