High Expectations: CBC BaseballPosted: Updated:
Many teams this spring lace it up in hopes of winning a title. At Columbia Basin College, it's simply expected. This past decade, the Hawks have claimed 6 Eastern Region titles, and 2 NWAACC championships.
Starting pitcher Elliott Van Gaver said, "Our expectations are always high. We set the bar as high as we can get it, and we go get it."
Shortstop Thomas Henderson added, "It's knowing that we can put together a good baseball team year in and year out. I think everyone just wants to be apart of a good team."
Sure talent helps. There has to be a better reason for 6 Eastern Region titles and 2 NWAACC championships in the past decade.
Former Kamiakin Braves catcher Maxx Garrett said, "It's the good dirt. Green grass. And good weather we got here in the Tri-Cities."
Head coach Steve Farrington said, "We're in baseball heaven. You're outside everyday here. And the best way to learn this game is out between those lines."
Maybe all this success comes from the inner workings of a coaches mind. At 3-1 already this season, the club really seems to believe its latest addition is pure genius. Steve Farrington has been coaching baseball 38 years, and currently in his second one as CBC's leading man.
Gaver said about his coach, "All in his head. All in his head."
Garrett added, "To think in the ways he does... I mean you have to be around this game. It has to... this game is your life."
The Hawks hope that Farrington can continue the successful ride CBC has been on for the past decade.
