YAKIMA--Another year and time for another Miss Yakima County pageant.
Fifteen girls competed at the Capitol Theater Sunday afternoon, eight for the title of Miss Yakima County. The other seven battled to be Miss Outstanding Teen Yakima County.
Alyssa Fennell of Sunnyside is the new Miss Yakima County, and Melinda Trujillo of Yakima wins Miss Outstanding Teen.
The reigning Miss Washington Outstanding Teen, who hails from Yakima, told KNDO what those lucky ladies can expect.
"Well, first of all it's going to be lots of pictures all the time," Reina Almon said. "She's going to have to be really involved with her community and be able to keep up in what's going on in the news, because that's going to get her ready for the state pageant this May."
Almon said the best thing about the pageants may be the scholarship money.
She's received about $5,000 in scholarships through competing.
Contestants can earn scholarships even without winning pageants.
