1 woman dead, 4 others injured in SR-97 car accident including 2 yr. old boy
NEAR TOPPENISH, Wash. – A 46-year-old woman died Sunday night and four others were injured in a car accident including a two-year-old boy who was flown to Seattle' s Harborview Medical Center and is in critical condition.
Dianna Tahkeal of Wapato fell asleep at the wheel just before 11:00 p.m. on State Route 97 and McDonald Rd, west of Toppenish. She drifted to the right shoulder then over corrected and her van rolled landing on its top, according to Washington State Patrol. Tahkeal died on the scene.
In addition to Michael Whitford, 2, from Wapato, two other children were injured. Mattea Tahkeal Whitford, 8, and M'Kayla, 11, were treated for injuries at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
The final passenger, Russell Tahkeal, 50, was released at the scene after being treated for minor injuries.
