YAKIMA, Wash. -- A man suspected of attempted murder leads police on a chase before being taken to jail.
Yakima Police have arrested 33 year old Mauricio Luna Montoya of California for the attempted murder of 40 year old Jose Moran of Yakima. Moran was found badly shot Sunday evening in the 1100 block of S. 18th Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they saw two vehicles, a small black car and a large white truck. Luna was standing outside the truck. As soon as he saw officers, he ran, jumped in the drivers seat and lead police on a chase. The black car followed but at one point turned the opposite way of the truck. Police pursued the truck.
Luna then headed eastbound on I-82 but became entangled in the freeway median barrier cables. He had blood on his face and hands. He was booked into the Yakima County Jail on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder.
Moran is in critical condition. Police believe drug trafficking was a factor in the shooting, not gang involvement. They are still investigating the incident.
He was transported to Harbor View Medical Center with life-threatening wounds.
