Cash rebates for energy efficient appliances

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wa;--If you're looking to replace an old refrigerator or clothes washer you might be able to get a rebate from federal stimulus money.

The new stimulus program aims to get people to trade in or permanently disable old appliances and upgrade to more energy efficient ones.

In Washington, only refrigerators and clothing wash machines are eligible for rebates. You could see up to $75 back for your refrigerator, and as much as $100 for your old washing machine.

The goal of the program is the same as Cash for Clunkers; help make the nation more energy efficient as a whole, while boosting sales at the same time. $300 million dollars of federal stimulus money are going towards this program.

In Washington nearly 60,000 appliances are expected to be replaced, saving Washingtonians over $1,000,000 in energy costs.
