Four Yakima leaders end up in Washington, D.C.; city pays for two staffers

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Many City of Yakima leaders hoped to visit the nation's capital this year but because of personal obligations or family emergencies, only four people ultimately made the trip.

The City is paying for Mayor Micah Cawley and Michael Morales' expenses. Morales is the deputy director of the Department of the Community and Economic Development. Expenses are estimated at just under $1900, which includes airfare, hotel, and food.

The other two city staff members are paying for their trips to Washington on their own.

Multiple council members and City Manager Dick Zais had planned on taking part in the visit.
