YAKIMA, Wash--690-thousand cars were sold under last year's cash for clunker's program. Washington is hoping to get similar support for the new cash-for-appliance offer.
Starting today, if you replace your old washing machine or refrigerator with an approved energy-efficient model, you can get a $75 rebate for the washer and $100 for the fridge. Naturally there are some restrictions. The state's website lists all of the details of the program, restrictions for use as well as the models of refrigerators and washing machines that qualify for the rebate.
The state is hoping to replace 15,000 fridges and 45,000 washers saving Washingtonians about one million dollars in energy costs. But the rebates are on a first come first served basis until the federal stimulus money that is funding this runs out. So if you're looking to take advantage, now is the time.
