Former YVCC star hits March Madness

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--Former Yakima Valley Community College star Anthony Johnson makes his NCAA tournament debut.

Johnson plays for the University of Montana.  He is the team's leading scorer but struggled Thursday night, only scoring six points in the Grizzlies' five-point loss to the University of New Mexico.

His old coach at YVCC is still proud.

"To see that growth over our two years [at YVCC] and to continue on at Montana, it's been really amazing to watch," Ray Funk, YVCC Men's Basketball Coach, said.  "But it's just a testament to how hard he works."

Johnson led the Yaks to a conference championship back in 2008.

Funk tells us Johnson hopes to play professionally after he graduates this year.
