Process continues for the next chief of police in West Richland
WEST RICHLAND. Wash;-- Interim Police Chief Rick Morrell tells us he will not put himself in the running for the City of West Richland Chief of Police, in fact, he says he plans to leave the department shortly.
Today at a meeting in West Richland Morrell said he has enjoyed his 19 years in the police department but it's time for him to try new things. Right now Morrell says he's applying for a police positions in Afghanistan and plans to leave to pursue other endeavors there. At the end of this month the application process for the next chief is expected to end.
In the mean time, The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs starts a management assistance program tomorrow called the Loaned Executive Management Assistance Program. Its purpose is to provide management consulting and technical assistance to Association members. LEMAP is an opportunity for law enforcement administrators to avail themselves of a professional review of their department's organization, operation and management system.
In other West Richland Police Department News, the city will be participating in a Metro Drug Task Force. The department now has a detective in the Tri-City Drug Task Force, which is expected to help apprehend drug dealers.
