Watch out for ticks, health experts say

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA--Spring is here, and health experts want you to be on the look-out for ticks.

Tick bites can bring fevers, rashes, weakness and aches.

The Yakima Health District hasn't seen a tick-related illness in several years.  But, they're worried that our mild winter may bring out more of the bugs.

Unfortunately, ticks can be found just about anyplace you'd like to go outside.

"They really like our sagebrush hills around here," Laura Charters, Yakima Health District, said.  "They like grassy fields.  They'll be in the woods down next to rivers and streams."

Charters said avoiding ticks is similar to avoiding mosquitoes:  wear long sleeves and light-colored clothes when outdoors.

Spraying yourself with insect repellant will also help keep ticks and other bugs away.
