KENNEWICK; Wash-- The former West Richland police chief is taking legal action against the city of West Richland over severance pay.
Before, Layne Erdman, had only sent a letter of intent to seek damages after he was forced to resign at the beginning of the year.
Now he has filed a tort claim which is the next step towards filing a lawsuit.
In the claim, Erdman asks for one years salary of $120 thousand because he says he was fired without any reasons given.
City leaders say they are looking into the claim.
"The city has received a tort claim filed from Layne Erdman former police chief. We are submitting it to the Association of Washington Cities who is our insurance carrier and we are going to be waiting further advisement." says Ruth Swayne.
They expect to hear back from their insurer in the next few weeks.
