YAKIMA--Easter-themed animals, like bunnies and chicks, can be popular presents at this time of year. They're also a lot of work.
Big R Farm and Ranch in Yakima gave away 500 free chicks as part of a Saturday promotion, but they sold plenty more than that.
It may seem nice to have a cute bunny or baby chick on Easter Sunday, but they must be taken care of.
"These are babies and they're real susceptible to heat and cold," Roc Hurt, Big R Farm and Ranch, said. "We need to control their environment as far as temperature-wise.
KNDO called the Yakima Humane Society and a pet store, who said they will not accept unwanted bunnies or chicks.
Hurt said Big R is selling many more chicks than in years past because people are raising them for eggs and meat.
He can't remember anyone ever trying to return an animal.
