YAKIMA--After months of investigation, Yakima Police Chief Sam Granato has been cleared of allegations he threatened and created a hostile work environment for two subordinates.
Investigator Jeff Wade cleared Granato of two separate complaints filed in January.
In one, Granato allegedly made a threatening comment toward Officer Jim Moore regarding Moore's involvement in City Council member Micah Cawley's November re-election campaign. Cawley did win another term and is currently the city's mayor.
The second complaint alleged that Granato made negative comments about YPD Capt. Rod Light, claiming that he could not be in a position of authority and needed to be terminated. Light complained that the comments created a hostile work environment.
City Manager Dick Zais supported Wade's findings. He added that he hopes to clarify the city's policy to protect employees who get involved in political campaigns to avoid any future issues.
