YAKIMA, Wash. -- A homicide suspect leads Yakima Police on a high speed chase down Tieton Avenue. It happened Wednesday evening around 6 PM.

Police say they were originally looking into possible drug trafficking when they identified one of the associates of the drug target as a man wanted for a warrant for second degree murder. That man has been identified as 33 year old Joel Barrajas.

YPD's gang unit was able to find Barrajas' car. When they tried to pull him over, he sped off and lead police on a chase through central Yakima at speeds up to 70 mph.

YPD Chief Sam Granato said, "It was a good chase. The officers did a good job trying. We weren't going to let this guy go knowing that he was wanted for murder."

Barrajas eventually lost control of his car can crashed at 28th Ave. and Tieton Dr. Both he and a 24 year old suspect were taken into custody. The 24 year old faces drug related charges. Barrajas faces possible weapons charges on top of the DOC Murder 2 probation violation warrant.
