Fever Rally to Win First Game of the SeasonPosted: Updated:
Off again... On again... Off again... On again... just reading this is annoying right. Well try being the Tri Cities Fever. In their first six weeks of the season, the team had three bye weeks and three games. No chance to establish a flow, and the net result, a 0-3 start to the season.
Fever took on Fairbanks at home Saturday night. Grizzlies controlled the first quarter, and were led by quarterback Josh Rummell. Fairbanks jumped out to a 20 to nothing lead.
It felt like the air had been let out of the Toyota Center.
In the 2nd quarter, the Grizz were about to jump out to a 26-0 lead, until Carldyle Brantley turned the Fever's swag on. His interception seemed to light a fire under the entire Fever team.
On the ensuing possession, Zillah native Andy Collins threw a lob to Thyron Lewis who went up for the grab and over the wall for the TD reception. Collins threw for 4 scores on the day.
Late in the 4th quarter, would you believe Tri cities in front, and tacked on to its lead. Collins to Brandon Copeland. Fever went up 44 to 33.
Fairbanks responded immediately with a TD of its own. Grizzlies then forced a missed field goal, and regained possession with no timeouts left under 1:30 to play. With Fairbanks within 5 points, and one yard out from the game winning score, the Fever defense got clutch. A huge fourth and goal stop on the one yard line to lift the Fever to victory.
Tri-Cities defense allows a mere 6 points in the second half, catapulting the Fever to a 44 to 39 victory, and their first win of the season.
