Fight Like a Girl class helps women learn self defense

Posted: Updated:

According to the Sexual Response Center 1 out of 3 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in her lifetime, but a women's self defense class was created to one day change that.

What is different about this self-defense class called "Fight Like a Girl" versus other self-defense classes is there are no illusions. There are no flying sidekicks or jumping front kicks, it is all about women using their core strength to get away from a sexual attack.

It's a self-defense system created specifically to empower women against assault. Unlike most training that uses upper body strength F.L.A.G. relies on one's core and lower body strength to generate power.

"They walk away with skills they can use today, they don't have to stay in here 6, 7, or 8 months, they can use them in a 3 hour class today to protect themselves," instructor Howard Hunt said.

For most participants, "Fight Like a Girl" means that a woman brings her particular strengths to the conflict while minimizing the strengths of a man. Instructors say women should not attempt to fight directly into the "strengths" of a man who is attacking her but learn to use her unique skill set.
