What the special session means for Yakima businesses
Yakima, WASH--The Greater Yakima Chamber Of Commerce held its annual legislative wrap up today.
The goal was to tell local business owners how decisions made in Olympia will effect them. Senator Curtis King and representatives Norm Johnson and Charles Ross were on the agenda. But they are in Olympia until the special session wraps. Instead Don Brunell, the president of the Washington Association Of Business, carried the presentation.
Overall Brunell is disappointed with the legislative session. He told the audience that the new regulations will be geared more toward building the public sector than the private side. According to Brunell, the biggest problem for Yakima businesses will not be fixed in the legislative session this time around.
Brunell says lawmakers plan to raise the business and occupation tax as well as tax bottled water, candy and soda. His message to the Yakima business community is to elect new leadership that understands business.
