RICHLAND, Wash. - A high speed car chase in Richland ends with one man behind bars. It happened around 3:30 p.m.
Police say they were looking for 26 year old Elvis Lopez after they got a call from his girlfriend saying he assaulted her. Police found him in Richland and attempted to pull him over but he didn't stop. Officers say he was driving erratically and was going twice over the speed limit. At one point he was going 80 mile per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. For safety reasons, police canceled the chase.
A little while later they "pinged" his cell phone and found Lopez in Benton City. Police then chased him all the way back to Richland and that is when police used tire spikes to get him to stop.
Lopez then got out of the car holding a folding knife and approached the officers. Benton County Deputy's applied the taser and arrested him.
Lopez was arrested near Jadwin and Torbett street. He was booked with simple assault, suspicion of DUI, stealing a vehicle, and assaulting police.
