Tax deadline looms

Posted: Updated:

Pasco, WA- If you've been waiting for the last minute to prepare your tax returns,

you can stop waiting.

With the April 15 deadline looming,  Liberty Tax Service offices in the Tri-Cities are staying open around the clock.

If you have all your receipts and other tax information ready, owner of the Pasco liberty tax Service office Jason Smith says he should be able to take care of most eleventh hour filers. But if you're still trying to find your W2s and receipts for all those donations you made over the past year, filing an extension may be your best option at this point.

"The thing about extensions most people don't realize is that when you file an extension, it's only an extension on the time of filing, not on interest and penalties," Smith says. "So if you do owe, they do start to accrue on April 16th."

If you have been procrastinating, you're far from alone. The Internal Revenue Service says about one third of Americans wait until the last minute to file their federal returns.
