YAKIMA--The man found Thursday in a canal near Granger died from a gunshot to the heart.
In an autopsy performed Saturday, Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins found that 19-year-old Joseph Ezequiel John was shot at least twice; once each in the heart and arm.
John's body was badly decomposed when Yakama Nation Tribal Police found it Thursday afternoon in the Marion Drain canal near Highway 22 and South Track Road.
Hawkins believes it was in the canal for several months. He identified John through dental records.
Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies have been searching for John all year in connection to the death of 21-year-old Fernando Figueroa.
Like John, Figueroa was found dead in the Marion Drain canal. He had been shot several times and wrapped in plastic before apparently being dumped in the canal.
John's death has been ruled a homicide. It is the 11th in Yakima County in 2010.
