Defense tells their side in Stafford rape-murder trial
Yakima, WASH--The defense began their side of the case Friday in the Clayton Stafford trial.
Stafford's ex-girlfriend and the owner of a bar he and the victim used to frequent testified. His lawyer, Gregory Scott, still plans to call two more witnesses Monday. Depending on how that goes, Stafford himself may take the stand.
He is charged with the 1993 rape and murder of Shawna Yandell. Stafford was arrested last year after detectives say DNA evidence connected him to the crime. The trial is expected to finish early next week.
