RICHLAND, Wash;-- Dozens of people gathered at the Red Lion Hotel in Richland today for the 3rd Annual Volunteer Center Golden Heart Awards.

Seven awards were given out today to pay tribute to volunteers in our community who donated their time to help others last year. One Golden Heart recipient says getting recognized isn't why he volunteers, he just loves to help others. He also encourages everyone to get out in the community and volunteer.

"It's very necessary in the community and it's very rewarding, self-rewarding," says Outstanding Male Volunteer, David Carl. "No matter what their situation is there's always different ways they can figure out how to do some volunteering in the community."

Carl was recognized as the Outstanding Male Volunteer for his work with Columbia Industries as well as many other local groups.

Other winners include:

Outstanding Youth Volunteer (age 17 and younger) - Tabitha Johnson

Outstanding Female Volunteer (age 18-54) - Ronni Dreisback

Outstanding Female Volunteer (age 55 and Older) - Jean Stacy

Outstanding Male Volunteer (age 55 and Older) - Steve Haberman

Outstanding Leadership by a Board Member - Nancy Russell

Outstanding Group Volunteers - Sails Outlet for Safe Harbor Thrift Store Volunteers
