City leaders deny golf course deal

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Kennewick City Council unanimously turned down a settlement agreement that would allow the Columbia Park Golf course to become a city-run facility.

Currently, the golf course is leased out by Gary Long who's leased the property for the past 10 years. The agreement would've compensated Long with over $300,000. The cash offer would have ended the golf course lease and also pay for golf equipment and supplies. But after a question and answer period city leaders decided it was in the city's best interest to not go forward with the agreement. Their biggest concern is that they needed more time.

Long also sued the city a few years ago for breach of contract after an agreement for him to build a clubhouse and R-V park next to the golf course was reversed. Last year he was awarded $3 million but now the city is appealing the case.
