ELLENSBURG--Central Washington University welcomes a new addition.
Central's opening a new Welcome Center without tapping into money meant for education.
CWU put about $180,000 into the center on the corner of University Way and Pearl Avenue. All of that money came from revenue made by housing, dining commons, and other university ventures.
The building itself was donated by a local businessman, who also spent roughly $65,000 to upgrade the facility.
Close to 100 people showed up for the ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.
University President James Gaudino hopes the welcome center attracts prospective students.
"You don't really drive up to Central Washington, you tend to drive by Central Washington because of where we're located," Dr. Gaudino said. "So this provides a very visible location."
CWU Won't be the only ones gaining from this center. Tickets for community events, both on and off campus, will soon be available here.
