Spring Barrel tasting begins and ticket sales are up
YAKIMA, Wash.- The biggest weekend of the year for Yakima Valley wineries is here.
Spring barrel kicked off Friday afternoon at 30 wineries from Yakima to Prosser. Organizers say pre-sales for the event are up 15 percent from 2009.
Many people come from out of town. They're exactly the type of tourists local businesses like to see.
"Wine guests that come in to the valley are typically paying more money for a hotel, they're paying more money for food and they're paying more money in retail," said Barbara Glover from Wine Yakima Valley.
Spring Barrel is all weekend. Glover hopes they attract more than last year's 5,000 visitors.
