Tri-City Americans: Their Beards Keep Getting Longer
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Tri-City Americans know it will be a battle to defeat the Eastern Conference Champs, the Calgary Hitmen, for the WHL Title.
But Tuesday, former NHL goaltender and Americans Owner Olie Kolzig challenged fans to help the team make it happen and said that this is the Americans year.
"I really hope the city hops on board and become big believers in fate," said Klozig. "It's been a fantastic season. No matter what happens from here on out, Stu and I talk about it all the time, we're very proud of you guys."
It all starts Friday as the Americans continue their quest to go farther than any other Tri-City team has ever gone before.
And with 3 playoff series under their belts, those playoff beards keep getting longer.
"It's a pretty hot topic around the dressing room right now," said Ams Defenseman Brett Plouffe. "Some of the older guys are starting to get a little bit itchy. The mustache gets in your mouth when you're eating and stuff. But, I think it's worth it overall."
"This is the longest I've had to go without shaving so hopefully we can go a little longer but it's fun to see who can grow them and who can't," said Captain Jarrett Toll.
Hopefully, the Ams can grow those beards out just a few weeks longer.
