League of Women Voters look back and ahead

YAKIMA--The League of Women Voters is working to improve Yakima's downtown.

At a luncheon Wednesday, the League honored longtime Downtown Committee President Kara Kondo, and discussed how downtown Yakima has improved over the years.

Current President of the League of Women Voters' Downtown Committee Marilyn Shearer said the biggest enhancements are making the area safer, and adding upscale housing.

Shearer hopes the improvements continue.

"If you could get enough businesses and enough people down here [to] having grocery stores and things like that, things that make life pleasant for people who want to live in an urban area."

Shearer says the old Boise Cascade mill site is a top priority for improving and expanding downtown.
