YAKIMA--Legislation signed by Governor Gregoire should open up new funding for Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.
But, the money won't be seen for a few years. Two-tenths of one percent of the county's sales tax will go to a public facilities district that will help fund the university's planned expansion ... But first ... Washington's economy must turn around.
"Now that the federal Congress has passed the Obama health care initiative, I think we're going to see an increasing need for doctors," Rep. Norm Johnson, (R) - 14th District, said.
Johnson sponsored the legislation, which was signed by the Governor Tuesday.
PNWU will break ground on a new facility this summer, but cannot expand until its first class graduates. The four-year med school's first class will graduate in 2012.
