The Great Line of Goaltenders ContinuesPosted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Whether it is by luck or by design, the Tri-City Americans always seem to have a great goaltender. Drew Owsley is no exception.
Ams Owner Olie Kolzig described what teams are thinking when they face the 5-8 netminder from Alberta.
"Let's get in front of this small goalie," said Kolzig. "Let's bump him around. He'll give up a few. But, he never backed down."
Owsley had 40 saves in Game 5 against Vancouver and another 30 in the Game 6 win.
So, he joins the long list of amazing Ams netminders: Kolzig, Tyler Weiman, Brian Boucher, Carey Price, and Chet Pickard. The list goes on and on.
Owsley continues to rack up honors. He was the CHL Goaltender of the Week, the WHL Player of the Week, and was the Western Conference Championship Series MVP.
Olie Kolzig couldn't be more impressed.
"I've got nothing but the utmost respect for Drew Owlsey, especially after having to come in after having Carey Price and Chet Pickard here, two highly regarded goaltenders and highly regarded first round picks," said Kolzig. "I seriously hope there is someone outh there looking at Drew because you can't measure someone by their size, you got to measure them by their heart and he's got one of the biggest I've ever seen."
In more Ams news, Wednesday, at the 2009-2010 WHL awards banquet in Alberta, the Americans were named the Scholastic Team of the Year.
