Schumacher resigns as men's basketball coach

PASCO, Wash. -- After eight years as head basketball coach at Columbia Basin College, Lane Schumacher has announced his resignation.

Schumacher says he wants to spend time working on his principal's credentials and his wife recently gave birth to their third child.

He will remain at CBC as an educational planner.

Athletic Director Scott Rogers says, "As a college basketball coach and Ed Planner at CBC, Lane already had two full-time jobs. Add a third child just as the season started, as well as working to complete his second master's degree, and it's easy to see he was burning the candle at both ends. When priorities change, something is going to have to give."

Over eight seasons, Schumacher's teams had a record of 103-114. He was named East Region Coach of the Year in 2009 after he guided the Hawks to the NWAACC tournament, playing with just six players for much of the second half of the season due to injuries.

The Hawks best season under Schumacher was 2006-2007 when they went 24-7 and finished fourth at the NWAACC tournament. In all, the Hawks made the NWAACC tournament three times under Schumacher.

Rogers says the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
