KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Homeowners may be wondering if your home is damaged in an extreme wind storm, does insurance cover the damage?
Some insurance companies in the Tri-Cities say home owners say homeowners insurance does cover wind damage, but there are some stipulations.
Gary Paulson, the owner of Mid-Columbia Insurance, says "We take a look at their policy, and turn the claim into the company. They'd actually have an adjuster come out, take a look at it, asses the damage, decide what caused the damage, is it something that's pre-existing that they should have fixed or is it caused obviously by the wind."
Paulson also says a home is typically covered in a situation where a fallen tree damages a house, or obvious damage to the home caused only by wind. However it is not always covered by insurance when a tree falls without damaging a building, or if there was previous damage to a home that is only being reported after a wind storm.
