Yakima director calling on talent for film this fallPosted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash. – A local director is preparing for his first feature film and calling on talent in the area to fill its cast and crew this Saturday during auditions.
Autumn Day Pictures will begin production of "Hannah and Jude" this fall but still needs to find actors for key roles in the film.
"I know there are good actors here and that's what I am really looking for," says Nathan Merritt, writer and director of the film.
"Hannah and Jude" tells the story of two childhood friends who eventually marry. Along the way, they create a music band starring Hannah that gains popularity around the world. That achievement is even more meaningful for the two because she is blind. But Hannah disappears later in the story, setting up one of the main themes of the film, losing a spouse.
Merritt has always wanted a career in filmmaking but found that goal especially challenging in Yakima. He admits the project would be easier to complete in a larger city like Seattle but he is committed to keeping it town.
As a local resident, Merritt appreciates the unique opportunity this creates for people like him.
"For someone who wants to be in the film industry, I don't know when another shot may come along," said Merritt.
Auditions will be held Saturday, May 8 at the Downtown Yakima Library meeting room. There will also be more information about crew positions.
