YAKIMA--Should Yakima County build a new courthouse?
That's what a study group, made up of 12 county leaders and community members, discussed Thursday.
They are analyzing recommendations from a 2007 study that found the current courthouse poses security risks and isn't cost efficient.
This group must decide whether the county should improve its facilities.
"Study and review the materials and determine does this make sense?" Lisa Freund, Yakima County Public Services, said. "Should the country move forward with a new courthouse facility, yes or no?"
Freund expects the group will take about four months to make a decision.
If they approve the plans, commissioners will put a bond to pay for the new courthouse on the 2011 ballot, where voters would ultimately decide whether or not a new courthouse will be built.
