KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A Southgate senior who lost her mom to breast cancer two weeks ago raises thousands of dollar to fight the disease.

17-year old Taija Rickord's senior project was raising money for the American Cancer Society, in her mom's honor. KNDU shared her story with you earlier this week and learned she was having a hard time getting enough food for tonight's fundraiser. That's when Franz Discount Bakery and the Kennewick Winco manager donated 500 hot dogs. Taija says it's great to know the community is there to help.

"I've been running around doing everything and when somebody steps up and says hey I want to help or give me those donations, especially when it comes out of their own pocket it just makes me file like there are people out there that want to help and there's people out there helping me, I'm not alone," said the senior.

Taija raised $1,490.24 tonight - for a grand total to $4,661.24. She will donate the money at the Strides For Breast Cancer Walk tomorrow in Richland.
