Power problems at Mabton's treatment plant are fixed
MABTON--A power failure that led to 370,000 gallons of raw sewage flowing into the Yakima River last month has been fixed, according to the city's mayor.
In mid-April, a backup generator didn't turn on at Mabton's wastewater treatment plant, leading to the massive sewage leak.
Mayor Angel Reyna told KNDO Wednesday the generator has been repaired, and said tests performed by an electrician show the system is now working fine. That means an estimated $20,000 system repair will not be needed.
Engineers will visit the plant Thursday to see if the plant is operating properly.
