Homicide suspect arrested

TRI-CITIES, Wash--  22 year-old Kurtis Chapman is behind bars after police arrested him in Pendleton  late Tuesday night.  He's suspected of killing his 19 year-old ex-girlfriend Shenay Greenough over the weekend then leaving her body under his father's home.

Court documents show Chapman admitted he killed her but he says he didn't mean to.   Now, the loss of a young mother, pregnant with a second child, is hitting family friends.

"I woke up in the middle of the night.  I just can't believe she won't be coming here anymore," says Vicki Spitz, a family friend.  She and her son Forrest say Shenay was extended family.

"We'd hang out, have holidays together whenever her mom was busy," Forrest adds.  "She was like basically part of the family.  It was very devastating to hear what happened to her."

Friends say they don't know much about Kurtis Chapman, but Shenay did introduce him.  What we know is his lengthy criminal history, stemming back to a child molestation charge in his teens.  He has since been in and out of the courts, most recently for possession of methamphetamine.

The details surrounding this case are still unfolding, but for now, Kurtis Chapman remains behind bars.
