Health alert issued after sewer leak

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Benton-Franklin Public Health District has issued a health alert, because of a sewage leak in Grandview that dumped 300,000 gallons of untreated waste water into the Yakima River.

The Kennewick Irrigation District receives their irrigation water from the Yakima River.

Leaders are advising people not to swim in the river, and to avoid direct contact with irrigation water. They say if you do come in contact, to wash with soap and warm water in order to remove potential bacterial contamination.

You can call the Benton-Franklin Health District at 509-460-4200 for more information.
