There are millions of undocumented immigrants in America, so the question is "how did we get here?"
Immigration Attorney Tom Roach is hoping to answer that. He is set to speak at the Richland Labor Temple Friday at 7pm.
His goal was to inform the 'misinformed'. He says he wants to educate people on what he says are several myths about illegal immigration. And there is no better time than right now, given protests in Arizona over new immigration laws, as well as the influx of migrant workers to come to the Columbia Basin for agricultural work.
Roach plans to tell his audience that most people have the wrong idea about illegal immigration.
"You can't summarize it in a sound byte, so luckily I'm going to have an hour tonight to talk to people about the facts. How many people are here, why they're here, that they pay taxes, that they're not on welfare, that they do contribute to the system, that they're not just here to take, take, take and not give back." Said Roach.
Roach is a Pasco native. He has been practicing immigration law for nearly three decades.
Friday's meeting is open to the public. Roach will be making the same presentation next week on Monday at the Kennewick Library.
